Burton-on-Trent Golf Club is proud to uphold standards that reflect the heritage of the game and the welcoming culture of our membership.

Our dress code and etiquette guidelines are in place to ensure that everyone — members, guests, and visitors — enjoys their time at the club in a respectful and inclusive environment.

On the Course

Players are expected to wear recognised golf attire at all times. This includes:

  • Collared or approved golf-specific shirts
  • Tailored trousers or shorts
  • Golf shoes with soft spikes

The following are not permitted on the course:

  • Denim, cargo shorts, or tracksuits
  • Football shirts or non-golf branded sportswear
  • Trainers or open-toe footwear

Shirts must be tucked in, and caps should be worn with the peak facing forward.

In the Clubhouse

Smart casual dress is required throughout the clubhouse. Golf attire is welcome after play, provided it is clean and dry.

  • Golf shoes may be worn in the spike bar only
  • Smart denim (not ripped or distressed) is acceptable
  • Golf shoes are not permitted in the main lounge or dining areas
  • Hats and waterproofs should be removed indoors

At formal events or club dinners, a specific dress code (e.g. jacket and tie) may be requested and will be clearly stated in advance.

Mobile Phones and Conduct

We ask that mobile phones are kept on silent while on the course and used discreetly in the clubhouse. Calls should be taken in the foyer or outside, away from dining areas.

All members and visitors are expected to show courtesy to other players and staff at all times. This includes observing pace of play, repairing pitch marks, and raking bunkers.

A Club to Be Proud Of

These standards exist to maintain the respectful, welcoming atmosphere that defines Burton-on-Trent Golf Club. If you’re unsure about any aspect of dress or conduct, please speak with the Club Manager or a member of staff before your visit.
