A Course Shaped by Harry Colt

Originally based at Branston Road, the club moved to its current home on Ashby Road in 1910. The setting — a natural expanse of mature trees and gently rolling parkland — offered the perfect canvas for a world-class golf course. In the 1920s, the club invited the legendary architect Harry Colt to redesign the layout. Colt’s vision introduced strategic bunkering, subtle doglegs, and intelligent routing that continue to shape the character of the course to this day.

His redesign turned the course into something special — a layout that rewards precision and imagination, rather than power alone. The flow from hole to hole remains one of the defining features of the club’s identity, earning it recognition as an England Golf Championship venue and praise from amateurs and professionals alike.

Where Tradition Lives On

The heritage of Burton-on-Trent Golf Club lives not only in its course, but in its community. Across generations, families have joined together, tournaments have been won and lost, and lifelong friendships have been made. For many members, the club has been a constant — a place where time slows down, traditions are respected, and every visit still feels like something to look forward to.

While facilities have evolved and the demands of modern golf have changed, the values remain the same. Respect for the course. Respect for the game. And a shared commitment to preserving the very best of what club life can be.
